Mama Joy gets VIP treatment at Boks game

A week after mocking the Springboks’ loss to Ireland – and hinting her absence at the stadium was the reason why- Mama Joy, real name Joy Chauke, is back supporting the South African rugby team

The sports fan has travelled to Bloemfontein to show her support. And by the looks of it, she’s receiving VIP treatment.

Does this have anything to do with her meeting Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie this week?

MAMA JOY TO SPRINGBOKS: ‘LUCKY CHARM IS HERE’
On her X account, Mama Joy revealed that she would be cheering on the Springboks at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The superfan – who has recently come under fire by Gayton McKenzie – also revealed that she was staying at a five star hotel.

Chauke tweeted: “Good Luck Bokke. I can’t wait.

Mama Joy hinted that her VIP travel and accommodation were thanks to the SA sports supporter group, the Braai Army, and travel agent Dan Hooton.

She added: “Today I am here at Bon Hotels with them, Taking care of everything, Dan. Major Danko”

When I meet ⁦@BraaiArmy⁩ in Paris I said to myself this is my home ,,,I attended all their events ,,, Supporters from all over the world came and take pictures with me ,,Today am here at Bon Hotels with them ,, Taking care of everything Dan , Major Danko pic.twitter.com/kn8Dpj18hm

— MamaJoy Chauke (@JoyChauke5) July 20, 2024
Mama Joy’s jubilant tweets come a week after she claimed that the Springboks loss to Ireland was due to her absence.

She tweeted: “Mama Joy, @Springboks⁩ lucky charm was not there. Previous game, I was fast and prayed for my team, but today, I ate pap and vleis in the morning. During the game, I was snacking.’

Chauke – who earlier trolled Gayton McKenzie over his claims that superfans must watch games on television – added: “You had like a prophetic message to me yesterday. Meaning I won’t go to Durban… Today, Springboks lost 25-24 against Ireland.

“So, the Minister of Sports has to understand that Mama Joy has a lot of influence with sports, with Springboks.”

Mama Joy claimed her absence from Kings Park Stadium was the reason behind the Springboks loss to Ireland.

BURYING THE HATCHET WITH GAYTON
While Mama Joy has expressed her unhappiness with Gayton McKenzie’s superfan comments, it seems that she has buried the hatchet with the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture.

On her X account, the superfan posted a pic of her meeting the outspoken minister, and both of them were all smiles!

She tweeted: “Meeting my lovely Minister. All Smiles. @GaytonMcK⁩ , thanks for showing me love. Love My Minster”

In a previous Facebook Live, Gayton revealed that while the department would no longer pay for her trips to sporting events, he would be happy to introduce Mama Joy to corporate companies who were keen to sponsor her.

She’s back! Jody Williams sings electrifying national anthem

After quitting her music career for a job out of the spotlight, former Idols SA winner Jody Williams gave her fans a taste of her electrifying vocals when she performed the national anthem for the Springboks in Bloemfontein.

The Cape Town singer sang Nkosi Sikel’i Afrika at the Toyota Stadium, where the Boks took on Portugal.

Jody was just 17 when she won season four of the show in 2007.

WATCH: JODY WILLIAMS SINGS NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR THE SPRINGBOKS
On social media, Springbok fans have hailed another show-stopping rendition of the national anthem, as sung by Jody Williams.

This follows performances by Ntokozo Mbambo, who sang the anthem in Durban, and KB Motsilanyane, who performed in Pretoria.

Jody – wearing an emerald green gown – returned to the “stage “after she promised to “quit” her music career.

Watch it below…

And judging by her vocals and stage presence, fans were begging her to make a comeback.

@Murda_GGs: “Jody Williams still has it, sjoe!”

@bantsunduncapha: “Jody Williams? SA Idols winner, Jody Williams? Where has she been ?!?!”

On her Instagram account, Jody acknowledged her performance in the historic match.

WHY DID EX-IDOLS SA SINGER QUIT MUSIC CAREER?
In 2019, Jody Williams sensationally claimed that appearing on Idols “ruined” her life.

The award-winning star hinted that her life had spun out of control after she made some bad decisions with her money.

After her gigs dried up and money became scarce, Jody sold her family home and took up an office job as an administrative assistant.

She told The Daily Voice: “Idols showed me the world, with the travelling overseas and meeting international artists. I just saw the money and a good life, but that was just the child in me.

“If only we had a life coach and financial advisor back when I won Idols, I think things would have been so much different.

Jody added: “I am so happy with what I am doing. Music ruined me as a young adult and I was yearning for stability. I spoke to my family and told them I didn’t want to do music anymore. I now do it as a hobby, but I don’t want to sing for a living again.”
