“Papa G! I used to get into so much trouble doing scenes with Darlington in the ‘Shebeen’. He would make me laugh so much I couldn’t get through a scene. I’m talking non-stop belly laughs! He was such a kind, funny and gentle man. Rest in peace,” wrote Jay Anstey on Instagram.

Although Anstey had film roles before joining the soapie’s cast in 2011, playing Charlie Holmes was her first TV gig.

Speaking to SABC News, Kgomotso Christopher, who played Katlego Sibeko on the soapie, said: “Bra Darlington was a living legend that us up-and-coming artists had the privilege to work with. I knew him as my beloved colleague on Isidingo for many years. I shared the set with him, and I travelled with him on work road trips, so I knew the professional side of him on set. I also knew Bra Darlington, who was just a laid-back, chilled guy.”

“What people don’t know about Bra Darlington is that he was very soft-spoken. Soft-spoken, gentleman. Very sweet, a man of very few words,” she said, reflecting on how great a talent he was to have brought the character of Papa G to life so vividly that people believed that was who he was.

“I think that’s always going to be his legacy and the lesson he will leave to all of us as artists. No matter how challenging things are, especially in our careers, we never forget the why and we never forget the passion and the importance of sending the lift down for those that are coming after us.”

After a challenging hiatus when the actor suffered a stroke in 2013, which forced him to step away from the limelight to focus on his health, Michaels made a notable return to television in 2020, starring as Gab in Mzansi Magic’s drama series Vula Vala.

Speaking to the publication, Zakes said he credits the evolution of his music to collaboration by allowing young people to inspire his creativity. He said he’s the oldest in the studio and he allowed himself to be a student again, and to be inspired by young people and for him to inspire them.

The award-winning singer was called out for being disrespectful by mocking the sign language during the shooting of her recent music video.

 

The South African sign language digital learning platform criticised her on Instagram and shared the video.

“By doing the sign gestures, Makhadzi did not only mock our language or disrespect our culture, but she taught her million fans that ‘this is normal’, which is unacceptable in deaf culture. Deaf people don’t accept sign gestures. Making a mockery of a language so rich in history and culture is making a mockery of its people and the struggles they have endured,” sign language mentor Dieumercy Asan said.

Makhadzi responded with an apology and said she didn’t mean to hurt anyone.

“There are many things that happen without knowing how people will take it. As someone who is in the entertainment industry this was part of acting without knowing how it will affect other people. However, if people are affected by a certain act, I must understand and accept I was wrong.”

“I am willing to send a public apology, I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I had no intention to hurt anyone from the deaf community. As someone who has been bullied, I understand how painful it is and that others didn’t take what I did well. I’m taking accountability for that. Hence, I’m willing to send a public apology, but I do apologise for that, I had no bad intention. I will release a statement next week,” the music star said.
