Recently, Chidimma announced her participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 competition. This decision comes on the heels of a challenging experience she faced during the Miss South Africa pageant earlier this year, an ordeal that has since gained widespread attention.

A moving video shared on Africa Facts Zone’s X handle captured Chidimma’s heartfelt announcement of her new pageant journey. In the video, she expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received, saying, “I cannot speak on video without first of all expressing my gratitude to the incredible people who have shown me so much love and support.” These words hold significant weight, especially in light of the adversity she has faced.https://twitter.com/PSAFLIVE/status/1823754835453268212?s=19

Chidimma’s experience during the Miss South Africa pageant was marred by controversy and xenophobic backlash. Although she is a South African citizen, her mixed heritage—being born to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother—led some to question her eligibility to compete. This scrutiny intensified when the Miss South Africa organizers prompted the Home Affairs department to investigate, alleging that Chidimma’s mother might have engaged in “identity fraud” to secure South African citizenship.https://twitter.com/joy_zelda/status/1823806553516073321?s=19

The situation escalated, placing immense pressure on Chidimma and raising concerns for her family’s safety. Ultimately, she made the tough decision to withdraw from the competition just last Thursday. Despite this setback, her journey took a surprising turn as she announced her entry into Miss Universe Nigeria, a move that has since sparked an outpouring of support from South Africans.https://twitter.com/ChrisExcel102/status/1823750063509647834?s=19

In an unexpected show of solidarity, many South Africans have rallied behind Chidimma, embracing her as “our own.” Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of encouragement and pride, with many expressing hopes that she will become the first South African to win the Miss Universe Nigeria title. The comments are filled with optimism and admiration for her resilience. One user, Lolly Encod, even quipped, “Our girl entering Miss Universe Nigeria and eats all of them. She’s South African 😄.” This sentiment reflects a broader wave of support that has transcended national borders.https://twitter.com/HuddyHackle/status/1823766857377284191?s=19

Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina’s story is more than just a personal narrative; it represents the complex dynamics of identity in a globalized world. Her journey highlights the power of community and the importance of standing together in the face of adversity. As she prepares to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma is not just a contestant; she is a symbol of resilience, courage, and hope. Her story bridges cultures, bringing together people from different backgrounds in a shared spirit of support and admiration.

As the world watches her next steps, one thing is certain: Chidimma’s journey is far from over. The beauty pageant stage, often seen as a competitive arena, also serves as a powerful platform for storytelling—stories that celebrate diversity, foster understanding, and inspire countless individuals. Chidimma’s story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the unifying power of shared dreams and aspirations.

Missy Elliott kicks of her first-ever headlining tour

Missy Elliott, the legendary rapper, singer, and producer proved she’s still at the top of her game with her first-ever headlining tour in the United States.

MISSY ELLIOTT’S TOUR
The ‘Out of This World Tour’ landed in Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre on Monday night. It left her fans breathless and begging for more.

After 20 years, Missy showed why she remains a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, according to the New York Post.

Back in 2004, Missy shared the stage with Beyoncé and Alicia Keys on the Verizon Ladies First Tour.

MISSY ELLIOTT AT THE BARCLAYS CENTRE
Now, two decades later, she’s headlining her own tour with her long-time collaborators, Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Timbaland.

It’s been a long wait, but the show was worth every minute, according to Deadline.

The Barclays Centre became Missy’s playground as she delivered a 90-minute set that was as much a visual feast as it was an auditory one.

MISSY ELLIOTT’S LONGEVITY
From the moment she stepped on stage, she commanded the audience with her infectious energy and undeniable talent.

Missy’s performance was a testament to her longevity and relevance in the industry.

At 53, she showed no signs of slowing down. In fact, she seemed to be ageing in reverse, with a youthful exuberance that belied her years.

FANS ENJOY THE SHOW
“Missy brought it all,” said one ecstatic fan. “She’s a legend, and she proved it tonight.”

The concert was a journey through Missy Elliott’s greatest hits, from the late ‘90s to the early 2000s.

Tracks like We Run This, Sock It 2 Me, and Get Ur Freak On had the crowd on their feet. They were dancing and singing along. But it wasn’t just the music that stole the show.

FUTURISTIC FASHION
Missy Elliott’s futuristic fashion sense took centre stage, with jaw-dropping outfits that ranged from a ballooning, billowing train to umbrella-hatted dancers for her iconic track The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).

“My highlight was ‘She’s a B***h,’” said another attendee. “The way she combined the music and visuals was just out of this world. Literally.”

CELEBRITY GUESTS
The evening wasn’t just about Missy, though. Ciara, just eight months after giving birth to her fourth child, stunned the audience with her flawless choreography and impeccable body.

Busta Rhymes, ever the hype man, kept the energy levels high, referring to Missy Elliott as “my twin” with affection, according to Billboard.

As if that wasn’t enough, the night included surprise appearances by New York rap legends LL Cool J and Lil’ Kim.

A NEW YORK MOMENT
LL Cool J joined Busta’s set, while Lil’ Kim graced the stage during Missy Elliott’s performance. This reminded the crowd of the golden era of hip-hop with her Timbaland-produced hit The Jump Off.

“Seeing Lil’ Kim and Missy on stage together was everything,” gushed another fan.

“It felt like a real New York moment.”

A ONE OF A KIND ARTIST
The ‘Out of This World Tour’ could be Missy’s first and last headlining tour in the U.S. If this is her farewell, she’s going out on the highest of notes.

She left everything on that stage, and the audience knew they had witnessed something truly special.

Missy Elliott reminded the world why she’s a one-of-a-kind artist. As the night ended, there was only one thought in everyone’s mind: “No one does it like Missy.”
