Nara Smith sets the record straight on gender roles

n the digital age, where influencers shape trends and inspire lifestyles, Nara Smith has emerged as a prominent figure.

NARA SMITH AND GENDER ROLES
The former model, now a TikTok sensation, captivates millions with her meticulously crafted videos. In her videos she prepares everything from homemade snacks to household essentials.

Dressed to perfection, Nara showcases her life as a devoted wife and mother.

Yet, despite her growing popularity, she’s found herself in the midst of a debate she never intended to spark, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

NARA SMITH IS NOT PUSHING AN AGENDA
In a rare interview, Nara addressed the misconceptions surrounding her content.

“People assume I’m pushing a narrative about traditional gender roles, but that’s not my intention,” Nara clarified.

“I’m not saying this is normal or that people have to live this way to be a certain kind of person.”

NARA SMITH AND ‘TRAD WIVES’
Nara’s TikToks often highlight her daily routines, where she caters to her husband, fellow model Lucky Blue Smith, and their children.

The couple has become the poster family for the new wave of “tradwives” on the internet, according to Entertainment Tonight.

But Nara insists this image is not something she consciously cultivated.

NARA SMITH AND LUCKY BLUE
Responding to accusations that her videos are mere performance, Nara dismissed the notion that she and Lucky Blue are putting up a front.

“What people think online is that we have housekeepers, cleaners, and nannies, but in reality, it’s just me and Lucky wanting a family and sharing our lives online,” Nara Smith revealed.

The couple has limited household help, relying on a nanny for only a few hours each week.

SHARING RESPONSIBILITIES
Nara Smith and Lucky Blue have developed a partnership in every aspect of their lives,, according to IMDB.

They share parenting and home care responsibilities, crafting a daily childcare plan together each night.

“It’s not about thinking, ‘Oh, I need to make my husband a meal right now, or he’ll be upset,’” Nara explained.

EMBRACING TRADITIONAL ROLES
Lucky Blue echoed her sentiment: “I view our situation as a big partnership. When she’s cooking all these meals…”

Nara Smith interjected with a laugh, “He does the cleanup, which I’m grateful for because I hate that part.”

As for the perception that Nara is encouraging women to embrace traditional gender roles, she was quick to dispel the notion.

“In no way am I suggesting that others should follow what I do,” she said.

CONTENT AND THE MORMON FAITH
“Whether it’s a meal idea or a home-cooked dish I’ve made for my toddler, I’m just putting content out there to inspire.

People can take from it whatever they want.”

Nara and Lucky Blue have also faced scrutiny for occasionally referencing their Mormon faith in their videos. This lead some to accuse them of pushing religious propaganda.

Nara found this accusation baffling. “I’m definitely not doing that,” she asserted.

YOUNG MOTHERHOOD
“Everyone’s faith is deeply personal. I would never want to put something out there for people to follow. That’s crazy to me.”

Beyond her homemaker persona, Nara Smith has drawn attention for being a young mother.

At just 22, she’s already a mother of three, and a stepmother to Lucky Blue’s child from a previous relationship.

Some critics speculated that Lucky Blue pressured her into motherhood too early, but Nara firmly disagreed.

“It was my decision. Lucky had Gravity when he was really young.

FAMILY LIFE
It felt natural for me to have kids early too,” she explained. “I love being a young mum.”

However, Nara has no plans to expand her family further.

“After Whimsy, we’re absolutely done,” she said with a smile. “Toddlers are the best form of birth control—they’re wild!”

In a world where influencers often face criticism for the messages they send, Nara Smith is clear about her intentions.

She’s not promoting a lifestyle or ideology—she’s simply sharing her life. And that, she hopes, is enough.

Mia Le Roux shines a spotlight on issues faced by deaf people- Neema Foundation

Non-profit organisation Neema Foundation for the deaf says newly-crowned Miss SA Mia Le Roux’s victory shines a spotlight on issues faced by people who have the same disability.

The 29-year-old Free State-born model was crowned Miss SA at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday, 10 August.

NEEMA FOUNDATION FOR THE DEAF WELCOMES MIA LE ROUX’S CROWNING
In the last few years, the Miss South Africa competition has made strides toward becoming a more inclusive pageant.

Le Roux who was raised in Oudshoorn in the Western Cape who was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one, made history wen she was crowned the first hearing-impaired Miss SA.

Neema Foundation chairperson Itumeleng Motaung said she agrees with Le Roux that, as a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, she represents a community that often goes unheard.

“Her victory shines a spotlight on the issues faced by the deaf and hard of hearing community, bringing them into the mainstream conversation,” she said.

Motaung said as September marks Deaf Awareness Month, the Neema Foundation urges everyone to learn the SA Sign Language, embrace the deaf community as part of mainstream society, and support deaf victims of gender-based violence.

Onalenna’s mention of ‘Chidimma’ annoys Mzansi and reportedly costs her to win the crown.

Miss South Africa (Miss SA) viewers believe Onalenna Constantin’s subtle reference to the Chidimma Adetshina controversy may have cost her the crown.

The Top 3 finalist – a firm crowd favourite – made reference to her, the former pageant contestant, who was at the centre of a social media storm over her nationality

Ultimately, Mia Le Roux – the pageant’s first deaf winner – was crowned in a glittering ceremony at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. Nompumelelo Maduna was named her runner-up.

DID ONALENNA MAKE REFERENCE TO EX-FINALIST CHIDIMMA?
During a “quick fire” question-and-answer round, Onalenna Constantin was asked if she believed technology had brought individuals closer together or driven them apart.

The question was posed by Miss SA judge Lerato Kganyago, who has also come under fire for defending Chidimma on social media.

Responding, Onalenna said: “I believe that technology has driven us apart.

“These last couple of weeks have been very difficult for me. Because I can see how South Africa has been divided through the works of technology.”

She added: “I’m standing here, urging South Africans to stand in unity. Remember who you are so that South Africa can thrive again”.

On the X app, many believed that Onalenna’s answer was a subtle nod to Chidimma, with whom she shared a close friendship. And some believed the bold move may have cost her the crown.

@JonMarduk: “Crown gone for Onalenna. Should have left that Chidimma nonsense out her brain“.

@The_CitizenZA: “Onalenna was a favourite until she tried to be in solidarity with her Chichi friend.”

@Thato_Elizabeth: “Onalenna tripped herself up by speaking about Chichi.”Onalenna’s comments came hours after South African singer Tyla also defended Chidimma.

The Grammy-winning star tweeted of the former Miss SA contestant: “Disappointed that this happened to her. But wish you all the best girl. Kill it!”

She added: “I will always stand with South Africa. I just feel regardless of the opinions…She was bullied, and that’s what I don’t stand for.”

Like Onalenna, Tyla’s comments were widely ridiculed by SA tweeps.Like Tyla, Miss SA finalist Onalenna Constantin also defended Chidimma Adetshina. This comes amid an investigation by Home Affairs into her nationality.

FUMBLING OVER FINAL ANSWERS
In Onalenna’s final Top 3 question and answer round, she fumbled over her words, running out of time in her interpretation of the question: “What are some of the changes you would bring to South Africa as a nation.”

After waffling on for a few seconds, the nervous contestant said: “The one thing I would change is….”, before a buzzer signalled she had exceeded her time limit.

“Yoh!” she added before walking off.
