Lehasa Maphosa : “They Told Me I Wasn’t Black Enough To Play This Role

Actor Cedric Fourie, who was raised in Soweto, has disclosed that, despite his Soweto origins, he has been told he isn’t “black enough” for several roles. He claims this has just served to further his motivation.

The actor who was born on 17 March 1989 said this to Tshisalive after he was turned down for a role.

“At one point, I was on the verge of giving up on trying out for a role involving a black man. Just because I am a few shades lighter than what Europeans consider to be black, does it mean that I am not sufficiently black?

However, I moved past it, and when Skeem Saam offered me access to a black character that I had previously been denied, I seized the opportunity. “I gave it my all and dropped everything,” he remarked.
In the well-liked SABC soap opera, the actor portrays cunning and cunning businessman Lehasa. Despite only having a six-month contract at first, his perseverance paid off, and it was extended, allowing him to develop as the character did.

Later on, according to Cedric, he overcame the perception that his “lighter complexion” was a drawback and chose to let his work do the talking.

He clarified that he gives every role everything he has since he wants to establish himself as a serious actor through his performance.

You bring the story to life like an actor. While I’m happy to be a part of a show that emphasizes planning and research, in the end, my acting will be what audiences will remember. Selling myself as a multifaceted actor is what I want to do. One who can play any role, from businessman to drag queen,” he remarked.
