MISS South Africa 2018 Tamaryn Green balances medicine, food and motherhood

MISS South Africa 2018 Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo’s passionate about kids. So much so, that she’s working on opening a paediatric practice.

The 30-year-old medical doctor spoke to Daily Sun about what she’s working on. She told Daily Sun she’s just finished her diploma in child health.

“I’ve always had the love for medicine. But I won’t lie, it was quite exhausting when I went back after Miss SA in 2018, but I’ve always had a love for children. Paediatrics is what I want to pursue, so part of it is getting your diploma in child health,” Tamaryn said.

“So, finally, I got it and passed. Now, I’m working on a practice that I’ll be opening probably early next year.”

Tamaryn studied medicine at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a medical degree in 2019. She said going back to school to do her diploma in child health wasn’t easy.

“The journey was stressful. Going back and studying after you’ve had a year or two off is not easy, but you have to sit down and grind. In the end, you have to remind yourself what your purpose is. And my purpose is I love kids and want to do well in medicine and open a paediatric practice one day,” she said.

The former beauty queen is also quite a cook. She posts videos of herself cooking, and her fans love the Zulu traditional food she cooks for her husband, Ze Nxumalo.

“So, many people think I’m a cook and a chef now, and I’m not. I do all those videos for fun. I wanted to learn how to cook and did exactly that. Am I a Michelin star cook? No, I’m not. I just love exploring food. A lot of people have been approaching me to work with different food and promote certain products. But I always work with things I do love and feel I’ll actually use in real life. So, I’m moving in the direction of being a food influencer,” she said.

Tamaryn also recently announced that she’s expecting her first baby.
