It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, a beloved figure in the South African entertainment industry and the founder of the prestigious Crown Gospel Awards. Zanele’s husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, confirmed her death in a heartfelt statement, revealing that she passed away in the early hours of Monday at Parklands Hospital. The family expressed their gratitude for the love and support they received during her illness and requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time.

Zanele’s journey in the public eye was marked by her vibrant personality and her dedication to uplifting the gospel music community. Her influence extended beyond the airwaves; she was a pioneer in recognizing and celebrating gospel talent through the Crown Gospel Awards, which have become a significant event in the South African entertainment calendar.

Zanele’s health challenges began earlier this year when she fell ill while presenting her show, Eshilo, on April 21. Her struggle with her voice led to her colleague, Thokozani MaMkhize Ndlovu, stepping in to fill her role. Following her initial health concerns, her daughter Nonjabulo revealed to TshisaLIVE that Zanele had undergone minor surgery to address issues related to shortness of breath. However, the situation took a tragic turn when Bishop Mpendulo disclosed that Zanele had been diagnosed with lung cancer, a battle she faced with courage and grace.
