Connie Chiume’s children share their heartbreaking stories

The children of the late Connie Chiume, Nothando Mabuza and Nongelo Chiume, recently opened up about the challenges they faced growing up with a famous mother, shedding light on the often-overlooked difficulties celebrity children encounter. Despite the glamorous image often associated with being a celebrity’s child, their experiences reveal a different reality.

Nothando, in an interview with Drum magazine, shared a particularly painful memory of being beaten by seven girls during her school years, simply because of who her mother was. This bullying forced her to change schools, and the constant scrutiny from others made it hard for her to form genuine friendships. She described how people would always judge her based on her appearance and question whether everything was fine at home if she didn’t meet certain expectations.Similarly, Nongelo faced his own set of challenges, especially in the entertainment industry. He often had to deal with the misconception that his mother, Connie Chiume, had paved the way for him, overlooking his own efforts and hustle. This assumption made it difficult for him to be recognized for his own hard work and talent.

Despite these hardships, the Chiume family has expressed deep gratitude for the support they received following Connie Chiume’s passing. In a statement shared on Instagram, they thanked everyone for their messages of condolence and appreciation, particularly acknowledging the doctors and nursing staff who cared for their mother during her final days.

This heartfelt reflection from Nothando and Nongelo not only highlights the difficulties that come with being in the public eye but also serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience required to navigate such a life. The Chiume family’s experiences underscore the importance of empathy and understanding for those who, despite their famous backgrounds, face very real and often painful struggles.

LERATO KGANYAGO APOLOGISES AFTER SUPPORTING CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA
Chidimma Adetshina’s participation in the pageant became a national debate after she revealed that she was born and raised in Johannesburg to a Nigerian father and a South African mother (Zulu) of Mozambican descent.

Chidimma Adetshina’s remarks left Mzansi questioning her eligibility. This led to Home Affairs intervention after a formal complaint was lodged with the department.

Against the news, on Thursday, 8 August, Chidimma Adetshina withdrew from Miss SA, citing ‘safety reasons.’

Her withdrawal also came after Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie’s Patriotic Alliance approached the courts to challenge her participation in the pageant.

PA filed urgent papers with the Pretoria High Court on Thursday, barely a day after Home Affairs confirmed that there was prima facie evidence following a preliminary probe into Adetshina’s citizenship.

Following a social media backlash, the initial report of Home Affairs and Chidimma’s withdrawal saw a series of apologies from local personalities, including Lerato Kganyago, Prince Kaybee, and DJ Sbu.

The development that set social media abuzz spurred Lerato Kganyago to apologise, and it came thick and fast.

Lerato Kganyago made it known that she was supporting another black woman. She went on to apologise to everyone she offended.

She posted, “All I wanted to do was stand up for another black woman. I apologise to those who have been offended in so doing!”

However, the media personality went on to turn off her comments section.

SOCIAL MEDIA RANTS
Last week, she ranted about Chidimma Adetshina being vetted while taking a swipe at Gayton McKenzie for his alleged pseudo-xenophobic remarks.

“I was a bit disappointed with the minister. [In his] last statement, he said, ‘It looks dodgy’. Now, we’re putting the life of this young lady in danger,” she said in her discussion with Somizi Mhlongo.

However, Lerato Kganyago revealed that the Miss SA Organisation had done everything according to the book.
